My World: My World Guest Interview Lucy Felthouse

Today I am joined by the lovely Lucy Felthouse!

EM: Welcome to My World, Lucy. It is lovely to have you here today! :-)

Firstly, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I'm 27 and from Derbyshire in the UK. I'm published with several publishers, and across multiple genres. I'm also an editor, and run my own business, Writer Marketing Services: http://www.writermarketing.co.uk

1. How long have you been writing for?

I've written ever since I could, but only for publication since 2008.

2. Did you always know that you wanted to be a writer?

Yes. When I was little I would always proclaim that I was going to be an author. Of course it took many years before I actually was. And I have to do lots of things in between to make up the money I'm not earning as an author.

3. What is your favourite genre to read? To write? And why?

I like to read and write erotic romance. I like it because there's so much scope. You can have different characters, pairings, situations, etc, that it never gets boring.

4. Who is your favourite author? Fave book? And why?

My favourite author is Portia Da Costa, because she writes fabulous stories and I love the touches of humour in them.

My favourite book is Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks because it's just amazing. A fictional story based around a real event in a place I've been to – it's just mind blowing.

5. How do you get your ideas?

They just come to me, mainly in the shower. They also come from books, TV shows, films, people, overheard conversations, places and much more. I just take what comes to me and run with it!

6. In your opinion what is the hardest part of the writing process?

Editing. The more you write, the better you get (hopefully), but it's still tough to edit and make sure your work is the best it can be before sending it off.

7. In your opinion what is the best part of the writing process?

Being published. Each and every time something new comes out, it's so exciting and just spurs me on to do more.

8. Are you a planner or a panster?

I started out in short stories, so I just wrote those as what came into my head. But right now I'm writing my first novel and I have it pretty well planned out so I know where I'm going, but I won't stick rigidly to the plan if it's not right for the story.

9. Do you prefer to concentrate on one story, or juggle a few?

I prefer to concentrate on one because I like to get things finished and sent off, but I often start my next piece when I'm close to the end of the one I'm writing. I don't do it on purpose, it's just when I know I'm almost ready to start a new project, I start thinking about it and if I think of something good, I write it down. It's good really, as it means I'm not starting with a completely blank slate.

10. Tell us about one of the most favourable scenes you have written.

Out of pieces that are published, I would have to say the scene in my novella, Off the Shelf (http://lucyfelthouse.co.uk/published-works/off-the-shelf/), where the main characters Damien and Annalise go for a drink together. They're just so wonderfully awkward because they fancy each other so badly but neither of them have the guts to do anything about it!

11. Out of all the characters you have created, who is your favourite and why?

Again, out of pieces published, it would have to be Damien from Off the Shelf. He's not your typical romance hero. He's not very alpha, but he's super intelligent, cute and of course, very sexy.

12. If you could meet any fictional character, who would you meet and why?

I'd like to meet Damien. If I didn't already have a boyfriend, that is.

Are you working on anything at the moment?

Yes, I'm working on an erotic romance novel at the moment. It doesn't have a title yet as I'm rubbish at titles and nothing's come to me yet. I'm only on chapter four, but I'm having great fun so far.

Do you have any current release?

Yes, I edited and have a story included in Smut by the Sea.
