Playing 20 Questions with C.R. Moss

EM: Welcome to My World, Chris. Thank you so much for stopping by to play twenty questions with me. :-)

Before we begin, could you tell us a little about yourself?

Hi! Thanks for having me here today. :) My name is Chris, and I write under the names C.R. Moss for erotic and mainstream romance and Casey Moss for mainstream dark fiction (horror, suspense, urban fantasy). My professional bio for C.R.: “An eccentric and eclectic writer, C.R. Moss pens stories for the mainstream and erotic romance markets, giving readers Worlds of Possibilities when it comes to love.” Basically I write stories from the light and sweet to the dark and deadly with varying degrees of sexual heat. The bio for my other persona: Casey Moss delves into the darker aspects of life in her writing, sometimes basing the stories on reality, sometimes on myth. No matter the path, her stories will take you on a journey from the light-hearted paranormal to dark things unspeakable. What waits around the corner? Come explore…

EM: Are you ready to play 20 questions? *rubs hands together* Mwahaha!

Which do you find harder to write?

1. First person POV or Third?

Neither actually. Both are fine for me to write. The viewpoint I use depends upon what the character(s) call(s) for.

2. As a male or female?

Again, neither actually. Both are fine for me to write. I’ve been complimented on my depiction of the male point of view.

3. Beginning, middle or end of the story?

It really depends upon the story. Right now I’m struggling with the middle of one story and the beginning of the other.

4. Fight scenes or smex scenes?

The smex scenes. Truthfully, I have to be in the mood to write them. If I’m not, I’ll write a line that says “Insert sex scene here” (no pun intended with the ‘insert’ lol), highlight it and continue on with the story. Then I’ll go back and fill in the intimate scene(s) later.

5. Synopsis or blurb?

Depends. There are times when I have the blurb written as I’m writing the story cause it came easy to me, and the synopsis is being a B. Other times it’s opposite. Then, and this is what I hate, there are times when both aren’t flowing, and I wish I could pawn the job off on someone else. Rarely do either come easy at the same time, but when they do, I’m thankful for that.

As a writer, do you prefer:

6. Writing in the morning, afternoon or evening?

Afternoon on good days but lately ~ late night. My muse seems to love getting inspired around 11 pm and keeping me up.

7. Writing with music, or in peace?

Wordless music. I normally turn on the New Age channel on the TV and listen to that. Yeah, spa type music. And, no, I don’t fall asleep to it. I used to work as a Massage Therapist so the music is easy for me to have in the background. Occasionally, I’ll listen to Alternative/Hard Rock/Edgy music or Country. Like my other answers, it really depends on the story. ;)

8. Planning, or Improvising?

A combination of the two. I do an information dump and outline as much of the story that’s in my head first thing. Then I work off the outline, fleshing out all the ideas and stuff. If I over plan, then sometimes I feel like the story’s already been written, and I end up not wanting to work on it for quite some time.

9. Juggling a few projects, or concentrating on one at a time?

I end up juggling 2 or 3 for a bit until I settle into one, and then I pound out that one while I’m excited about it.

10. Sticking to one genre, or exploring many?

I like to explore different genres. Keeps me open to whatever my characters want.

As a reader, do you prefer:

11. Story being told from female view or male?

Either. :)

12. Good guys or bad boys?

Either. :)

13. Fesity females or fragile damsels?

Feisty females.

14. Stand alone stories or series?

Either. :)

15. Quick reads or long stories?

Both are fine.

16. Romance as a side dish or the main course?

I’m finding I kinda like it as the side dish lately.

17. Erotica or soft romance or something in-between?

Depends upon my mood.

18. More action or humor?

Depends upon my mood.

Just for fun:

19. Vampires or Angels?

Angels

20. Werewolves or Demons?

Demons

What are you currently working on?

As C.R. Moss, I’m currently working on two stories with my writing partner for our Double D Ranch Tales series and on a couple of stories under my Casey Moss pen name. Today, though, I’m here to tout my latest C.R. Moss release, Lovers and the Fiend.

Do you have any current release?

Yep. Lovers and the Fiend is a story in Evernight Publishing’s Naughty Fairy Tale line. The characters, Jack and Kristina, appeared in my short story – Chasing Miss Kringle – that’s in an Evernight Publishing anthology – Stockings and Suspenders. This is the first of a handful of stories I have planned for the NFT line that revolve around the world started in CMK and Lovers. You don’t have to read the anthology story to read Lovers, but it’d be nice if you did. ;)

Blurb:

Ex-cop turned private investigator, Jack Vorst, learns his elf girlfriend Kristina has been missing for a few days after being invited to an underground vampire club. He, too, is summoned to visit club Hexenringe and is taken captive. Jack finds Kristina bound and gagged in a human sized bird cage. They’re both thrust into a kinky world at the hands of Kol, the club owner. Kol, a vampiric beast, shifts into human form to be with Jack and Kristina and needs them to remember their pasts and to love him so he can return to what he used to be. Can Kol make the pair fall in love with him despite his current situation and the fact he’s keeping them captive or will they leave, making it too late for him to change all their fates?

Excerpt:

The view of the man’s hard-on had been quick, but it had been enough. Jack’s cock pulsed, grew, pressed against his jeans again, reminding him of its presence, and that he should find Kristina.
The crowd’s roar was a good indication the man was amongst the favored. Hell, the dancer had his vote.
The handsome guy grabbed his pants, hurried off the stage and down the side steps.
Well, it’s either find my girl or appease any inquisitiveness toward being with a member of the same sex. Like maybe with Mr. Sexy who’s coming toward me.
Jack stopped several inches short of running into the dancer, who happened to be the same height as his six-foot frame. The man smiled. His dazzling gray eyes twinkled. The dancer reminded Jack of someone, but he couldn’t place who. The guy dropped his pants, grabbed the back of Jack’s head and planted his lips on his. The kiss was harsh, demanding, but the man didn’t seem to care, so neither did Jack. His free hand traveled down and cupped the bulge hiding in Jack’s jeans. Tingles raced through his body, and Jack wondered what the feel of the dancer’s hand on his naked cock would be like.
For the merest of moments, the man swept his tongue into Jack’s mouth. He tasted of a nutty, roasted flavor with a sweet tinge. Caramel? Perhaps. Jack made a note to find the beer the dancer drank beforehand and read the ingredients.
Loving the play of his tongue against his, Jack was about to reciprocate in the intensity of the kiss, but the dancer broke it off.
“I’m glad you approved,” the man’s tenor voice purred in a hint above a whisper.
Jack wasn’t sure if he meant how Jack didn’t mind the stranger planting one on him, touching him or the thought he had about what he’d been drinking, or all of it, so he just nodded.
“Come.” The man presented his long fingered hand with a charming smile.
Surprised how it didn’t faze him to accept it, he grinned, and where they touched, Jack’s skin sizzled. His knees seemed to weaken, and the only thought running through his lust-addled brain was that he’d follow the dancer anywhere, do anything the man wanted him to do.
The dancer winked, making him feel like his mind was an open book to him, and guided him to a door between the bar and stage. After stepping through the doorway, the man shut the door, encasing them in darkness. His hand tugged Jack’s. In silence, the dancer led him through the dark. How? He didn’t know. But in a weird way, Jack trusted him not to lead him astray.
Several feet in, the man stopped. “I am pleased you made the right decision to come here tonight.” His hot breath fanned Jack’s cheek.
Jack wished he could see the man and how close he actually was to him. If he moved his head, would he be able to kiss the guy in the thong? He cleared his throat. “Well, first off I came to find my woman. Secondly, your invitation seemed to be one I couldn’t ignore, and…” Jack paused. And what? Now that he was here, he found himself aroused and craving the man’s attention. Could he admit that aloud?
“And?” The man licked the edge of his ear.
Desire within Jack spiked, and heat fanned out from his ear and encompassed his neck. He gulped. “And now I think I want you.”
“That so? You want me? Good. What if I want to tie or chain you up? Have my way with you in all sorts of kinky ways?”
All sense left Jack, leaving in its departure a raging libido. Relief, he realized, was just an agreement away. “Sure. I’m up for anything you want to do.”

Any upcoming releases?

I don’t have dates for them yet, but I have two contracted stories through Decadent Publishing for their 1NightStand series. One is called Sunset Temptations and the other is Sunset Heat.

Blurb:

Sunset Temptations

Can wishes come true in just one night?

Roommates, Ivy Tramonto and Kiran Emerson, are heading out for their blind dates set up through a prestigious matchmaking service. Neither know anything about the men they're to meet at a charity event being held in a mountain resort, but they're looking forward to the adventure and forgetting about all their problems for an evening.

Resort owner, Robert Bourbon, doesn't have time to play the field, especially when he wants a polyamorous relationship. After requesting the services of Madame Eve, he's matched with the perfect pair and believes life can't get any better.

Everything seems to be going great, until a mistake one of them made comes back to haunt them. Will they make it through the dilemma or will they miss out on having their true desires granted?

Sunset Heat
Can one night change a woman's luck?

Seana Tramonto feels like she’s doomed when it comes to relationships. When her cousin, Heather, sets her up through the 1NightStand service, she’s apprehensive about the blind date, especially since she’s a virgin. Her concern turns to ire when she realizes her match is a guy who stood her up for an important event years ago. Zach had been her ultimate crush, the one she wanted to give her heart and virtue to, but because of that one fateful evening, she was never able to find another to share her heart with.

Zachary Russo, a Las Vegas policeman, talked into a 1NS date by Heather Tramonto, agrees to being matched so he can make amends with her cousin, Seana, the girl he hurt once upon a time. When he learns she had liked him more than just as a friend, the feelings he’d harbored for her rush back. He’s in the process, though, of balancing the date with his job and has to make sure she’s having a good, but safe, time.
Can Zach change Seana’s mind about him and have her feel for him again, thus changing her luck in life and love before his case causes problems?
