Blurb/Synopsis:
Things would be perfect if supernatural
disasters would quit creeping up and ruining Giselle’s happy new life. After
finally finding the fur-ever home she’s always wanted a witch blows into town
promising to reveal the bloody past of Giselle’s birth, and the circumstances
that led the little werewolf to end up in the foster care system to begin with.
Hot on the witch’s trail, another pack of
wolves is on the hunt for revenge, and will accept nothing less than her death
in retribution for the havoc she’s wrought on them.
Caught in the crossfire, Giselle desires
only the truth, and if the witch is who she claims to be, the little werewolf
must protect her at any cost. If she’s lying, though, Giselle risks her own
kind seeing her as a traitor. Neither her new pack nor her hottie witch
boyfriend Damien can offer any help.
Giselle is on her own again. And if she
makes the wrong decision, she’ll lose the only link she has to her own past.
Excerpt:
Heart and mind warring with each other,
compounded by the fact that when she was finished with her day of mundane
school life, wolfy politics awaited her, had the day dragging by at a snail’s
pace.
The bright light at the end of the tunnel
was her date to go running with Ash.
Wait.
Not a date, she had to remind herself. Not a date. Just two friends. Two wolf
friends, doing what wolves do – burning off a little energy out in the desert.
Running was the important part; letting the
hot breeze of the desert blow through her fur. Maybe she’d catch a jackrabbit
or two. They were always good fun. That’s all this was.
So why was she having to convince herself
so hard that this was all it was?
Ash’s warm smile and playful attitude clung
to her memory like a ghost with unfinished business, while anger and resentment
at Damien soured her mood.
But despite her anger at Damien, a small
voice of reason nudged her toward understanding. Damien was a witch, and just
like she was a wolf, loyalty came to family or pack first.
Relationship or no relationship, family was
what took precedence.
And yet, Ash had been more truthful with
her than Damien had. He had nothing to gain from it, either. He just offered up
what he knew without hesitation.
What could the witches be hiding that was
so bad it had to be kept from Giselle? And why, if Giselle was learning
information from Cassandra, was it imperative to continue the veil of secrecy?
They’d have to know it would only push her closer and closer to Cassandra.
The more she thought about it, the angrier
she got. And the angrier she got, the more she studied the clock, watching the
second hand refuse to move faster and let her get to what she wanted most:
running.
By the time the final bell rang for school,
she was like a predator in hot pursuit, running full speed to the parking lot
in search of Ash’s truck.
Of course she beat him there, and then had
to endure the seemingly endless flow of students pouring out of the front doors
and down the stone steps like a flood to clog the parking lot.
Asher trickled out, the last drop in the
rushing tide, moving with the urgency of a sloth.
“You
want walk slower there, Thrace?” she called out to Ash, whose vacant expression
said he’d forgotten about their plans.
The hope of a good run had been the only
thing keeping her from the edge of sanity all day. She’d hoped he had the same
desire, but clearly she’d been wrong.
“Feisty today.” He laughed and unlocked the
truck. “You must really need to blow off some steam.”
“You don’t even know the half of it.”
Giselle slid inside and started removing her shoes.
“Whoa there, lady, you going to shift here
and hang your head out the window while I drive?” Asher laughed.
“The thought had occurred to me.”
She’d have done it, too, just to get a rise
out of him, but it seemed all it took were words to have his chin nearly hit
the ground as his eyes threatened to bulge out of their sockets.
