Playing 20 questions with H.C. Brown

Today I have been joined by the brilliant H.C. Brown...

EM: Welcome to My World H.C. Thank you so much for stopping by to play twenty questions with me : )

HC: Do I get a buzzer?

EM: *Slides buzzer towards.*

Before we begin, could you tell us a little about yourself?

Okay here goes this is my press release….drum roll please.

H.C Brown is a multi published author of, Historical, Paranormal, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, BDSM, Time Travel, Action Adventure and Contemporary Romance. "I write tender erotic romance, with Male/Female, Male/Male and ménage...always with a happy ending." H.C writes under the pen name Pia Moonglow for YA Fantasy. Living in Australia, HC gets her inspiration from the beautiful Gold Coast beaches. "Let me take you to a world of fantasy and romance with delicious Alpha Males to melt your heart."

EM: Are you ready to play 20 questions? *Rubs hands together*

H.C: Be gentle with me…this is my first time.

Which do you find harder to write?

1. First person POV or Third?

Third- I found it very difficult reading in first person and then writing my own story in third person. So I avoid reading first person- it does my head in.

2. As a male or female?

I write in both sexes with ease. There is a feisty female in my head and a selection of alpha males. Often the big gay Dom guy drops in too. (He is my favorite)

3. Beginning, middle or end of the story?

The end takes me forever, this is mainly because I hate to say goodbye to my characters. I want the ending to stay with my reader…I like to write… Ahh….endings.

4. Fight scenes or smex scenes?

Well, the smex scenes seem to write themselves and I write them very quickly although they are always long scenes. I hate short smex scenes. Wham bam thank you mam, is never in my vocabulary.

The fight scenes. Mine are usually battles with knights in shining armor so they take a bit of planning,

The bar type fights are pretty easy.

Which do I like best…..Hmmmm….licks lips. The smex scenes. *GRIN*

EM: *Giggles* Have to say, I'm not surprised : P

5. Synopsis or blurb?

Blurbs for me a re easy- fast- short and to the point. I hate writing the synopsis and to be honest if you can't get someone's attention in the blurb the synopsis is useless. IMO the first three chapters are more important. Why? Because , the first three chapters represent the true style of the writer. Many writers fall short in their synopsis and for some it is not a true representation of their writing style.

IMO a synopsis should be written like this.

Plot: Bob and Joe meet in a bar and get it on.

Conflict: Joe has an old boyfriend/ axe murderer stalking him.

Ending: After a game of cat and mouse in the Siberian jungle the axe murderer is killed by a giant spotted Yak, and Bob and Joe live HEA.

EM: Bahaha. I would sooooo read that! But, yes, I think synopsis would work best like that, because I do hate writing them so very much.

As a writer, do you prefer:

6. Writing in the morning, afternoon or evening?

Afternoon when everything is done and I can find a peaceful five hours or so.

7. Writing with music, or in peace?

In peace. This is my time- no phones- no interruptions.

8. Planning, or Improvising?

I'm a pantser and no that isn't some kind of cat shifter….now there's an idea. I do have a basic concept in my head and the story moves in that general direction. The twists and turns, conflicts are directly from my Muse.

9. Juggling a few projects, or concentrating on one at a time?

Oh I am the best at juggling. Apart from having 6 WIP at the moment I'm running two blog tours within three weeks of each other . Can't stand on my head yet though…next year LOL.

EM: *Plumps a pillow and pushes under head*

10. Sticking to one genre, or exploring many?

I would get bored if I wrote in the same genre. I have many genres going at the same time. Historical, Time Travel/ Sci-Fi, BDSM, Paranormal and Fantasy.

As a reader, do you prefer:

11. Story being told from female view or male?

It depends on the story- Spartacus from the male POV- Little Women from the female.

12. Good guys or bad boys?

Bad boys all the way- BUT with a vulnerability that makes them real. Under every bad boy is a good guy don't you know?

EM: Now there is a hot image.... *Day dreams*

13. Fesity females or fragile damsels?

I hate whiny over dependant females. I prefer feminine/ feisty.

However, I personally think the aggressive – I can fight and beat all men with one punch- type women are a big put off. If I find them in a story or on a show I turn off straight away.

The female seductress, the femme fatale seems to have been lost of late and the aggressive hardnosed female appears more and more in stories. The Demasculinization of men is becoming the norm and this is a tragedy.

EM: They'll be back! Everything always comes back in to...err...fashion? eventually.

14. Stand alone stories or series?

I read both but I am a fan of series. If I like a character or a family I want to read more about them, so I buy a lot of series.

15. Quick reads or long stories?

I never want a book to end, so I like them *coughs* long.

EM: Don't we all? ; )

16. Romance as a side dish or the main course?

Hmmm this is difficult because I love romance but I love a great story too. So a great story with romance would suit me.

17. Erotica or soft romance or something in-between?

I will read any romance BUT erotic romance is more my taste.

18. More action or humor?

I love both I would like action and humor…. I'm getting hard to please now : )

Just for fun:

19. Vampires or Angels?

Angels- fallen angels- I like the bad guys. Although I love vampires who are not cold- there are many stories coming onto the market with warm vamps. These I can relate too. I can't imagine sleeping with a guy who is stone cold it takes the —Take your cold feet off my ass — scenario to a whole new level. I can picture it now. "Did you bring an ice cream to bed or are you pleased to see me?"

EM: LOL

20. Werewolves or Demons?

Well I like shifters myself- cats. The full- moon thing is a problem because for me that day is the best in the month…but if my husband turned into a werewolf, I would still love him and get a nice cage built for the full moon. Good excuse for a party LOL.

Demons are not my flavor.

EM: Very good excuse for a party!

What are you currently working on?

Another M/M BDSM, Hurt Me Good ,A M/F Fantasy as yet unnamed, Nox #5 in the Pride Brother's Series and my first wolf shifter story.- Dance to the Wolf. A historical M/M, BDSM romance, Lord and Master

  1. Heather! You get to write with no interruptions! That must be a benefit of living in Oz! Man, that rarely happens here. "Did you bring an ice cream to bed or are you pleased to see me." Ha! Great visual there...I do like my vamps tho..dark and dangerous. Sleep with an electric blanket and two controllers!

    Best always, my friend.
