Elizabeth's Recommended Read No. 5: Bayou Moon (The Edge Series, Book 2) by Ilona Andrews

Blurb:

The Edge lies between worlds, on the border between the Broken, where people shop at Walmart and magic is a fairytale–and the Weird, where blueblood aristocrats rule, changelings roam, and the strength of your magic can change your destiny…

Cerise Mar and her unruly clan are cash poor but land rich, claiming a large swathe of the Mire, the Edge swamplands between the state of Louisiana and the Weird. When her parents vanish, her clan’s long-time rivals are suspect number one.

But all is not as it seems. Two nations of the Weird are waging a cold war fought by feint and espionage, and their conflict is about to spill over into the Edge—and Cerise’s life . William, a changeling soldier who left behind the politics of the Weird, has been forced back into service to track down a rival nation’s spymaster.

When William’s and Cerise’s missions lead them to cross paths, sparks fly—but they’ll have to work together if they want to succeed…and survive.

Reason:

Rustic Fantasy. Magic. Chicks with swords. Sexy heroes, and amazing storylines. The Edge series is fantasy fun with some paranormal - rough and rugged edges.

So, another Ilona Andrews book. Do you remember me saying I will buy anything that this husband/wife team write? Well... I really do.

The Edge is a fantastic fantasy series, and I could seriously get lost in the world that Ilona Andrews has created. Each story is standalone. The characters are intriguing, and strong. The bad guys, and their pets can really give you the creeps. And the development between each hero and heroine is humorous, fun and sexy.

So, if you're looking for a fantasy this Christmas that's a little bit different, you should definitely take a look at this one.

Elizabeth's Wish List: Waking the Witch (Women if the Otherworld Series, Book 11) by Kelley Armstrong

Blurb:

Columbus is a small, fading town, untouched by the twenty-first century. But when three young women are found dead - victims of what appear to be ritual murders - things start to get very dark, and very dangerous . . . Private investigator Savannah Levine can handle 'dark and dangerous'. As the daughter of a black witch, she has a lot of power running through her veins, and she's not afraid to use it. But her arrival in Columbus has not gone unnoticed. Savannah may think she's tracking down a murderer, but could she be the killer's next target? Of course she could always ask her old friend (and half-demon) Adam Vasic for backup. But Savannah has her own - very personal - reasons for keeping Adam well away from Columbus. And in any case, she can rely on her own powers. Can't she . . . ?

Reason:

A friend lent me Bitten (Otherworld Book 1). In all honesty I wasn't sure about this book at first.... And then I met Clayton... *swoons* Damn, that man is a sexy son-of-a-gun.

Needless to say I have read every single book in this series, and it is actually one of my faves. Mrs Armstrong takes turns with her leading ladies, giving each of them their own book and storyline, yet all characters remain as ongoing presences throughout the series. Each book is set a year after the previous book, which means we get to see the continual journey of every characters life.

Waking the Witch is the 11th book in the series and stars Savannah, whom we first meet in Book 2. There are only two more books left after this one - Spellbound & Thirteen - and then that is the end to the Otherworld series - or at least as far as I know. I have to say I will miss it greatly. It's dark. It's bloody. It's fun, and crammed with paranormal goodness.

Strong heroines. Dashing, charming and sexy leading males, this series is a must for anyone who loves the paranormal genre.
