Playing 20 Questions with Nya Rayne!

Today I am joined by the lovely Nya Rayne!

EM: Welcome to My World, Nya. Thank you so much for stopping by to play twenty questions with me :-)

Before we begin, could you tell us a little about yourself?

I live in North Carolina and have been in love with fiction since I picked up my first copy of V.C. Andrews at the age of 11. I wrote my first story when I was 15, which amounted to about nothing, but it was so much fun to write that I kept doing it. I’m a serious advocate for reading and writing.  When I’m not writing, I can be found volunteering at the local ASPCA. I’m a lover of all animals, but I’m obsessive over my canine buddies.

EM: Are you ready to play 20 questions? *rubs hands together*

NR: Sure, let do this!!

Which do you find harder to write?

1. First person POV or Third?

Definitely first person, because I’ve never written any story in first person before.  However, I have considered it.

2. As a male or female?

I am a female, but I have the worse time writing them.  I can write/create a male character in two seconds flat.  Maybe I expect too much of my female characters…  Could it be life imitating art?

3. Beginning, middle or end of the story?

The middle always seems a little difficult for me, because that’s where you have to keep the flow and plot together. Otherwise, you’ll lose your readers.  It’s the meat of the story, my friend.

4. Fight scenes or smex scenes?

As an erotic paranormal romance writer, you would think writing a sex scene would be easy.  Well, it’s sooooooo not.  You have to remember what turns readers one, what turns them off, what is not biologically possible, and not to use ‘gyrated’ every other paragraph…lol.  It’s so much easier to write about someone being bitch slapped…lol.

5. Synopsis or blurb?

Neither.  I hate them both equally and that’s all I’m saying about that.

As a writer, do you prefer:

6. Writing in the morning, afternoon or evening?

I don’t have a preference.  Whenever time allows and my mind is working properly, it’s a good time to write.

7. Writing with music, or in peace?

It depends on my mood and the kind of scene I’m working on.  Like right now, I’m listening to Adam Lambert. But a few days ago I wrote a sex scene for a WIP to no music at all. Then I turned around and wrote a scene where my two leads were just conversing, and I wrote that scene to some George Strait.

8. Planning, or Improvising?

I definitely improvise.  I’ve tried that whole planning thing and it doesn’t work for me.  It fun to dream about though…lmao.

9. Juggling a few projects, or concentrating on one at a time?

I have to concentrate on one project at a time.  To the authors that can juggle, kudos to you!!

10. Sticking to one genre, or exploring many?

I’ve explored other genres before, but there are a few I wouldn’t dare try my hand at.  Like horror or comedy.  I get shivers just thinking about it.

As a reader, do you prefer:

11. Story being told from female view or male?

Honestly, it depends on the story.  That being said, I’ve become accustomed to reading a story from both POVs.

12. Good guys or bad boys?

Oh, I love a good bad boy.  I’m definitely one of those people that cheers for the villain.  Sometimes I cheer so strongly, I get mad when the villain get’s his in the end.

13. Feisty females or fragile damsels?

I like and I write feisty females, but I hate when a writer makes a heroine TOO strong.  And there is such a thing.  We all have read that story where the heroine was so strong, the hero comes across as weak.  I’ve read several books with female heroines that I’ve wanted to stomp because of how they acted.  There’s nothing wrong with a woman wanting or needing a man’s help or protection, and the fact that some writers make it seem as if something is wrong with that, pisses me off.

However, finding that even balance, is sheer brilliance.

14. Stand alone stories or series?

I love a good series when it makes sense and keeps the readers guessing and finding out new things about the characters.  There are some series out there that you don’t even have to read to know how it’s going to turn out.  They have the same formulas only the character names have changed…lol.  It’s sad, but it’s true.

15. Quick reads or long stories?

Depends on how much time I have.  If I’m not working on a new story, then long reads are my favs.

16. Romance as a side dish or the main course?

Main course, definitely.

17. Erotica or soft romance or something in-between?

Give me something in-between.

18. More action or humor?

A nice mixture of both is always a good thing.

Just for fun:

19. Vampires or Angels?

Vampires that don’t sparkle are always sexy.

20. Werewolves or Demons?

Definitely werewolves, but the ones that turn into real wolves.

Do you have any current release?

Yep, two so far.

 Bestseller on publisher’s website!!!

Blurb:

A street-wise hustler, Stormy has been running most of her life from the creature that killed her family.  However, when she meets Fury, a being so stubborn he could give a mule lessons, running is no longer an option. When he claims he’s her protector and the other half of her soul, Stormy would rather take her chances with the beast chasing her.

His dogged determination to protect her and his seductive expertise spark to life dreams she’d all but given up on: dreams of belonging to a family, and of having a life where running is nothing more than exercise. But with vile creatures hunting her, demanding her blood, and pack members who want her head instead of her help, Stormy will have to find a way to place her trust and heart in Fury’s care. If she can’t, then neither of them will have a future to dream about.

Blurb:

In a world where men are an endangered species, available only to the ruling class, and the majority of women date androids, the last thing Phia Zen wants is to buy her lover from a catalogue. Imagine her surprise when she receives her purchase, Donté, and discovers he’s a living, breathing man. Problem is he truly belongs to the most powerful woman in the world, and she’ll stop at nothing to get him back.

For the love of a real man, how much will Phia sacrifice? Her family? Her freedom? Her very life and the life of the only man she’s ever loved?

Blurb:

I have roamed the earth for over three millennia, secretly hoping to one day find the other half of my soul. The one woman who would make my deadened heart beat once more. I never imagined I’d find her in a bloodied heap beneath the claws of a despicable Yazaron, the bane of my existence. I saved her and as a reward was given three days to make her love me or I would cease to be.

She spent those three days in ICU fighting for her life.

Fate, what a cruel bitch.
