An Interview with Hayze, from Unveil My Heart, a Wiccan Haus Series/Anubi Brother’s Novel
An Interview with Hayze, from Unveil My Heart, a Wiccan Haus Series/Anubi Brother’s Novel
By Nya Rayne
***Thank
you for coming to chat with us today, Hayze. Why do you think Nya Rayne choose
you to represent her?
(One side of his mouth turns up into a half
smile) She didn’t really choose me. I
kind of volunteered since no one else wanted the job. That, and, well I’m not as hot headed as the
others and since I mated, nowhere near as busy either.
***Tell
us a little about yourself?
I think it’s pertinent that I let you know,
once I tell you this stuff about me, I will have to kill you. Now that that’s
out in the open, if you want me to continue, I will.
(Interviewer gulps and nods in agreement)
You’re very brave or are you just stupid?
(Hayze shrugs)
Okay, well, unlike you humans, I was
created, from the blood and crushed bones of Anubis, the Egyptian God of Death
and Darkness. I am called an Anubi
(And-nu-by). Created first to do Anubis’
bidding in any way he saw fit. However, upon Anubis’ demise, my one and only
purpose became protecting Anubis’s female offspring from the very same
creatures who killed him. You see upon
his death bed, Anubis cursed these creatures to live forever in the
darkness. The only cure for their curse,
his blood.
What
is your birth date?
Somewhere around the rise of the first
Egyptian dynasty, give or take a few decades. But who’s counting? (He chuckles)
Where
do you live? What is it about that area that drew you there?
You have a being in front of you with the
power to crush you with a mere thought and you want to know where I live and
what drew me to that area?
(He snorts in derision)
If you must know I live in a house on a
corner and my mate drew me to the area. Where ever she lays her pretty little
head, I call it home.
What
music do you listen too?
I’ve never been much of a music person.
Though my mate loves this lady name Adele.
She’d play her albums all day long if she could. (A soft smile plays
across his handsome face, before he hides it.) Next question.
Will
we be seeing more of you or are you stepping out of the lime light?
I believe you will be seeing more of me.
The chances are good that I might be making a cameo in Nya’s third Anubi Series
novel called, ‘Treyce’. If I don’t, I’m good with that too.
What
is your perfect evening?
Just my mate and I, sitting on our porch
swing listening to the cicadas go crazy in our backyard. Hell, any evening with Blaine, my mate, is a
perfect one.
If
you have truly lived as long as say you have, what’s the most memorable thing
you remember?
(He smirks at the challenge) The
crucifixion of the man you humans call Jesus Christ. He was a spectacular person in every way and
someone I had traveled with at length.
Are
you saying you were one of his disciples?
I’m not saying anything. You suggested
that.
Anyway, he knew who and what I was, but
never would he allow me to help him, to save him. Even on that last night as he called out to
the heavens, I stood at the base of that damned cross and begged him to let me
make right the wrongs done to him.
(He growls low)
But he wouldn’t hear of it. He said he had sins to pay for and this was
the only way he could do it. So I watched him die and days later he and I sat
and ate amongst the figs one last time.
Wow,
okay tell us about Blaine what drew you to her?
Blaine is my heart, my soul, my reason for
breathing; she is everything to me that is good in the world. She is my mate, my reward for over three and
half millennia of service to Anubis. If I were to lose her, I would turn this
planet into a block of ice for all eternity.
(A
soft smile plays over his face before he grows serious)
Let’s not
talk about Blaine.
What
really pushes your buttons?
Nosey people who don’t know how to mind
their own business and Sarka Rowan.
What
about the Man on the cover is that a fair representation of you?
What do you mean? That is me. Get a good look cause it’s going to have to
be destroyed. We Anubi have to make sure
there is no believable proof of our existence left behind. Could you imagine what science would do if
they found out about us? What other
humans would do?
There would be chaos!!
What’s
your biggest turn ons?
Blaine’s ass, her hair, the smell of her
skin. Everything about her.
What
is your biggest fear?
I already told you, losing Blaine.
***Why
should the readers be interested in your story?
It’s a story of strength and a lesson in
resilience. If you’ve ever been knocked
down and it seems like no matter what you do the Fates have it out for you, than
this is a story for you. It will make you cry, laugh and cheer. It’s my story.
There are no let downs in my story.

Blurb:
I have roamed the earth for over three millennia alone,
secretly hoping to one day find the other half of my soul. The one woman who
would make my deadened heart beat once more. I never imagined I’d find her in a
bloodied heap beneath the claws of a despicable Yazaron, the bane of my
existence. I saved her and as a reward was given three days to make her love me
or I would cease to be.
She spent those three days in ICU fighting for her life,
and now she wants nothing to do with me.
Fate, what a cruel bitch.

Excerpt:
Hayze’s voice rolled through her like a flame. His
breath smelled of cinnamon and his lips looked so rose petal-soft she wanted to
lean in that extra inch and kiss him, but she couldn’t. If she allowed herself
to feel anything more for him, it would destroy her when he left her. And he
would leave because he was too perfect, too rich, and she was too unlucky to
have someone like him to call her own. Still, she couldn’t deny that while she
pushed him away with her right hand, the left one kept reaching for him.
He smoothed the back of his hand down her cheek as
he slowly licked his lips, his eyes begging her to stay a moment longer, to hold
on to this stolen moment between them.
“I-I-have to pay you back somehow,” she whispered,
not breaking the contact.
Hayze tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear.
“I assure you it’s not necessary.” His eyes searched her face from brow to chin
and cheek to cheek, in a whisper of promises and apologies she wasn’t quite
ready to hear.
“I don’t like being indebted to anyone.” She
swallowed. “If I am, I feel like I’m that person’s property.”
He traced her lower lip with the tip of his thumb as
he leaned in closer. “Would it be that bad, Blaine, to belong to me?” A rueful
smile crossed his face before he hid it.
“I—You don’t know me. I don’t know you.” Blaine closed
her eyes and tried to ignore the way her heart reached for his and her soul
reveled in his touch. Something soft brushed her lips, but she couldn’t say it
was his lips because lips weren’t supposed to be that soft. She opened her eyes
and watched in fascination as the tip of his tongue flitted over his lower lip.
“I have to pay you back,” she blurted, jerking her head out of his hold.
“If you must, I’ll make a deal with you.”
“A deal?”
