Playing 20 Questions with Jessica E. Subject

EM: Welcome to My World, Jessica. Thank you so much for stopping by to play twenty questions with me :-)

Before we begin, could you tell us a little about yourself?

Thanks so much for having me on your blog, Elizabeth! It’s a pleasure to be here. I’m Jessica Subject. Yep, that’s my real name. LOL I write romance, whether it be contemporary, science fiction, or paranormal. And it can range from sweet to super-hot, gonna-need-a-fan sexy. I’m also wife to a wonderful man, and mother to two great (most of the time) kids.

EM: Are you ready to play 20 questions? *rubs hands together*

J.E.S: *grins* I’m looking forward to it.

Feel free to answer in as much detail as you like!

Which do you find harder to write?

1. First person POV or Third?
First, though I wrote my first story in first person. It changed POVs though, during revisions.

2. As a male or female?
Male. Thank goodness I have my husband to read over scenes for me to tell me whether or not my guys sound like guys. I’m getting better at it though. I just think, what would my husband or his friends do or say in the same situation?

3. Beginning, middle or end of the story?
The middle is the hardest for me until I get to the end and have to make sure all loose ends are tied up.

4. Fight scenes or smex scenes?
Fight scenes, though I’ve gotten a lot of help from two other awesome authors (Lorna Suzuki and DL Jackson) with those. They both write kick-ass fight scenes.

5. Synopsis or blurb?
Synopsis.

Feature & Character Interview: Bound by Pleasure by Lacey Wolfe

Bound by Pleasure
by Lacey Wolfe

Blurb:

Can Megan let her guard down enough to experience the pleasures Greg has to offer?

As an erotic romance author who has spent hours researching the BDSM lifestyle, Megan thinks she knows all about it. But when she decides to explore it firsthand, she quickly learns that there's a lot she doesn't know.

Greg isn't your typical Dom. He's an artist, and his life is anything but organized. He likes Megan from the start. She's honest and he sees something different in her. The more time he spends with her, the more he finds himself acting in ways he never has before. He's developing feelings for her, and he's hopeful Megan might be feeling the same way, but every time he tries to get her to open up to him, it seems that she takes a huge step back.

Megan has a hard time expressing herself, a problem that only intensified when her ex criticized her every time she tried to share her feelings. As a result, she learned to bite her tongue and keep her emotions hidden. So when she begins to fall in love with Greg, she isn't sure how to tell him, or even if she should tell him. But she fears if she doesn't open up to him soon, she may lose him. Can Megan find the courage she needs before it's too late?

Content Warning: graphic sex, BDSM theme

Character Interview: Dawn

Today I am sitting down with one of my characters from Bound By Pleasure, Dawn. She isn’t the main heroine of the story, but she is the best friend to Megan and she got to watch everything from the sidelines.

Lacey: Thank you for coming today Dawn.

Dawn: No problem. It’s a pleasure to be here.

Lacey: Megan is your best friend and she was not a submissive before. However, now she is. You’re already in this lifestyle. Do you feel like she ever would have ventured into it if it wasn’t for you?

Dawn: Eventually she would have. Megan is a natural sub. Even though she fought Greg some along the way, it was in her all the time. Sometimes it’s nice to just give up control and put yourself in someone else’s hands to take care of you.

Lacey: You knew both Greg and of course Megan before they met. When you heard Greg needed a new sub and you set up the interview for him with Megan. Did you know you were making a match?

Dawn:  Let me clarify, I only knew Greg in passing. He was unique however and different. He doesn’t socialize much with other Dom’s. In fact, he is a very private man. Megan keeps to herself as well. She spends hours a day locked away in her office writing. So to answer your question, yes, they certainly seemed right for one another. And, I think it’s worked out perfectly for each of them, don’t you?

Lacey: Oh yes, I do.  Megan has finally opened up.

Dawn: Yes! And I am so glad. That poor girl needed to learn to express herself.

Lacey: Near the end of Bound By Pleasure, you met Greg’s mentor and Friend Jay. Megan says she think she saw sparks between the two of you. Anything you’d like to share.

Dawn: Well, I liked him. But ultimately that’s up to you, Mrs. Wolfe.

Lacey: When you’re ready Dawn, let me know. As we learned, its been awhile since you were in a relationship.

Dawn: Yes, but I’ve been watching my dear friend Megan and I think I need some playtime as well.

Lacey: Maybe we can work something out.

Excerpt:

Turning off the car, Megan grabbed her purse. She quickly checked her makeup and hair in the rearview mirror. It was now or never. Taking a deep breath, she climbed out of her car and headed for the front door. The house was gorgeous and the yard was well taken care of. Once she made it up the stone walkway, she saw that the door was ajar. Strange.

She pushed it open and called out and was greeted by a deep voice that echoed from somewhere in the back. He directed her to go to his study which she would find to her left.

Well, she had made it this far, and he knew she was here—there was no turning back now. Once again she took a deep breath, and she made her way to his study. The door was closed when she found it, so once inside the room she made sure to shut it back.

Megan couldn’t believe the sight of his office. It was in complete disarray. Not one bit of organization. There were half started paintings on canvases scattered here and there, and piles of paper stacked on the bookshelves and desk. Perhaps it was best to get out of there. She couldn’t understand why Dawn had recommended him. This was not what she’d expected at all.

Right as she was about to leave she heard the doorknob jiggle. Her eyes widened as she wondered what to do next. Should she meet him on her knees? Or simply take a seat in a chair since this was only an interview? She opted for the chair and sat just as he walked in.

It took every ounce of Megan’s self-control not to let her mouth drop open when she saw the man who presented himself in front of her. Once again, this was not what she had expected. In strutted a man in loose, ripped jeans and a baggy t-shirt. He had sandy brown hair that was long and tied back in a ponytail. His eyes were crystal blue. A gorgeous smile was plastered on his face as he took a seat directly in front of her on a bar stool.

“You must be Megan,” he said.

“I am.” She had no idea how to address him or what to say.

“I apologize for keeping you waiting.” He reached over and took a piece of paper from the pile on his desk. “I looked over your application, and I see that you only have a little experience in this lifestyle. Have you ever had a Master?”

“No,” she responded.

Greg’s eyes drifted up and down her body. If she wasn’t feeling self-conscious before, she definitely was now.

“Is something wrong?” he asked.

“No, why?”

“You have to be honest with me or else I won’t even consider you. Trust is very important in a relationship such as you’re wanting to enter into.”

Taking a deep breath, she blurted out, “To be frank, you’re not what I was expecting.”

He chuckled. “Continue.”

“You’re so laid back, your office is not organized, and well, as I said, you are not what I was at all expecting.”

“Tell me then, what were you expecting?”

“A businessman with a powerful job.”

Character Interview: Hayze from "Unveil My Heart" by Nya Rayne

** Competition has ended. **
An Interview with Hayze, from Unveil My Heart, a Wiccan Haus Series/Anubi Brother’s Novel

By Nya Rayne

***Thank you for coming to chat with us today, Hayze. Why do you think Nya Rayne choose you to represent her?

(One side of his mouth turns up into a half smile) She didn’t really choose me.  I kind of volunteered since no one else wanted the job.  That, and, well I’m not as hot headed as the others and since I mated, nowhere near as busy either.

***Tell us a little about yourself?

I think it’s pertinent that I let you know, once I tell you this stuff about me, I will have to kill you. Now that that’s out in the open, if you want me to continue, I will.

(Interviewer gulps and nods in agreement)

You’re very brave or are you just stupid?

(Hayze shrugs)

Okay, well, unlike you humans, I was created, from the blood and crushed bones of Anubis, the Egyptian God of Death and Darkness.  I am called an Anubi (And-nu-by).  Created first to do Anubis’ bidding in any way he saw fit. However, upon Anubis’ demise, my one and only purpose became protecting Anubis’s female offspring from the very same creatures who killed him.  You see upon his death bed, Anubis cursed these creatures to live forever in the darkness.  The only cure for their curse, his blood.

What is your birth date?

Somewhere around the rise of the first Egyptian dynasty, give or take a few decades. But who’s counting?  (He chuckles)

Where do you live? What is it about that area that drew you there?

You have a being in front of you with the power to crush you with a mere thought and you want to know where I live and what drew me to that area?

(He snorts in derision)

If you must know I live in a house on a corner and my mate drew me to the area. Where ever she lays her pretty little head, I call it home.

What music do you listen too?

I’ve never been much of a music person. Though my mate loves this lady name Adele.  She’d play her albums all day long if she could. (A soft smile plays across his handsome face, before he hides it.) Next question.

Will we be seeing more of you or are you stepping out of the lime light?

I believe you will be seeing more of me. The chances are good that I might be making a cameo in Nya’s third Anubi Series novel called, ‘Treyce’. If I don’t, I’m good with that too.

What is your perfect evening?

Just my mate and I, sitting on our porch swing listening to the cicadas go crazy in our backyard.  Hell, any evening with Blaine, my mate, is a perfect one.

If you have truly lived as long as say you have, what’s the most memorable thing you remember?

(He smirks at the challenge) The crucifixion of the man you humans call Jesus Christ.  He was a spectacular person in every way and someone I had traveled with at length.

Are you saying you were one of his disciples?

I’m not saying anything. You suggested that.

Anyway, he knew who and what I was, but never would he allow me to help him, to save him.  Even on that last night as he called out to the heavens, I stood at the base of that damned cross and begged him to let me make right the wrongs done to him.

(He growls low)

But he wouldn’t hear of it.  He said he had sins to pay for and this was the only way he could do it. So I watched him die and days later he and I sat and ate amongst the figs one last time.

Wow, okay tell us about Blaine what drew you to her?

Blaine is my heart, my soul, my reason for breathing; she is everything to me that is good in the world.  She is my mate, my reward for over three and half millennia of service to Anubis. If I were to lose her, I would turn this planet into a block of ice for all eternity.
(A soft smile plays over his face before he grows serious)

Let’s not talk about Blaine.

What really pushes your buttons?

Nosey people who don’t know how to mind their own business and Sarka Rowan.

What about the Man on the cover is that a fair representation of you?

What do you mean? That is me.  Get a good look cause it’s going to have to be destroyed.  We Anubi have to make sure there is no believable proof of our existence left behind.  Could you imagine what science would do if they found out about us?  What other humans would do?

There would be chaos!!

What’s your biggest turn ons?

Character Interview: Donté from "For His Love" by Nya Rayne

Today I am joined by Donté the leading male in Nya Rayne's upcoming release, "For His Love."

Thank you for coming to chat with us today, Donté. Why do you think Nya Rayne choose you to represent her?

(He chuckles) I honestly wasn’t her first choice. She wanted my wife, Phia to do it, but she’s nearly due with our son, so she’s not all that hospitable right now.  So when Nya came to me, I jumped at the chance.  I mean, I love my wife, but this last trimester has been hard on both of us.  (He glances at the closed door) There’s only so many times a man can say sorry for breathing, you know?

Tell us a little about yourself?

(He rubs his chin in thought) Well, for the first 28 years of my life I was in captivity, under the pretense that I needed to win favor in order to enter a Utopian Society that doesn’t exist.  (His nostrils flair and his grip tightens on the arm of the chair) Before my wife bought me, I was meant to be the sex slave of the most powerful woman on the planet.  I’ve had a wonderful life. Need I say more?

What is your birth date?

Who the hell knows?  28…no 29 years ago?  We didn’t really celebrate birthdays after the fifth one in the Zoo.  I mean, what’s the point? It was more important that we knew exactly how lick, stick and titillate just right?

Where do you live? What is it about that area that drew you there?

Phia and I live between Florida and Charlotte right now. (He shrugs his masculine shoulders, and flicks and invisible piece of lint of his sleeve) Well, I like the warmth and freedom that Florida offers, but Phia has lived all her life in the Carolinas. So she can’t really see herself leaving permanently and I can’t—in good conscious—make her leave it.

What do you wish people would know about you?

(He scoffs) I wish these damn women would stop ogling me like I’m a piece of meat and understand that I’m just a human.  I have thoughts, dreams and wants just like them. I’m nothing special just the first man to find freedom in over 40 years. Let me be.

What music do you listen too?

(A soft smile plays across his handsome face) The only music I enjoy is when Phia plays the piano for me.  There’s nothing like it in the world.

Will we be seeing more of you or are you stepping out of the lime light?

That, I’m afraid, is a question for Nya Rayne.

(Nya peeks in the door)

If he plays his cards right, he might, if Phia doesn’t kill him first.

What is your perfect evening?

My perfect evening would be me and my best bud, Darius, blasting away at our vid-games over beers and a platter of hot dogs, followed up by a hot bubble bath with Phia and long night of love making. (He smiles dreamily as he nods his head)  Yeah, that would be a perfect night.

Is there anything you wish Nya Rayne had kept their mouth shut about?

(He looks away and around at the rooms, seemingly lost in thought) I wish she hadn’t elaborated on the demeaning things me and other nurtures had to endure while in the zoo.  Isn’t there something to be said for being a little vague?

Tell us about Phia what drew you to him/her?

Phia?  She’s light and love and strength and life and everything I never knew I wanted.  When I’m at my weakest she’s there to pick me up.  When I’m feeling egotistical and arrogant, she’s there to bring me back to earth.  Without that woman…  (He looks away, his hands bunching and releasing as his right leg begins jumping nervously) She’s my heart, my soul, the very air that I breathe.  Everything about her draws me to her on daily basis and it holds me there.

What really pushes your buttons?

Did you seriously miss my rant about being treated like meat?

What about the Man on the cover is that a fair representation of you?

(He throws his head back and laughs as he stands and lifts his shirt, revealing his chiseled stomach)  That is me, literally.

What’s your biggest turn ons?

Phia first thing in the morning with her hair mussed and sleep still in her eyes.  There’s nothing sexier, especially after a night of love making.

What is your biggest fear?

That one day the Elites will send the Retrievers for me. (He sat back and stared down at the floor) That one day my son and I will be taken from Phia. You know what the Head Hussy says, “Males have no place in her society.” Maybe one day she’ll make good on that. (He shakes his head) Please don’t let this all be a dream.

Why should the readers be interested in your story?

It’s a break from the norm, I guess.  If you love romance, you’ll get a lot of that, but if you like adventure and mystery you’ll get that as well.  And you’ll get a glimpse into a future that very well could be right around the corner for us all.

For His Love Blurb:

In a world where men are an endangered species, available only to the ruling class, and the majority of women date androids, the last thing Phia Zen wants is to buy her lover from a catalogue. Imagine her surprise when she receives her purchase, Donté, and discovers he’s a living, breathing man. Problem is he truly belongs to the most powerful woman in the world, and she’ll stop at nothing to get him back.

For the love of a real man, how much will Phia sacrifice? Her family? Her freedom? Her very life and the life of the only man she’s ever loved?
