BBPR & GB Blog Hop: The nice guy

Name: Kale
Age: Unknown
Species: Angel (A Collector)

Book Hero: The Collector (The Overseers Series: Book 1)

To be honest I can't really say what Kale falls under. In regards to labelling we only have "Delta Males" and "Gamma Males" left. Delta's are by definition show-offs who do things on purpose, and Gamma's are the quite and nicer males etc.

To me Kale is very old school; he is a gentleman. Since he has been a Collector Angel for most of his existence he is rather naive to the ways of the world, and when he falls he is having to process a lot of information, and learn as he goes.

He is sweet, and other-wordly. In a lot of ways he is almost like a teenager discovering things they didn't understand as children, and yet he has centuries of memories, and knowledge.

Kale isn't commanding or even kick-ass like my Werewolf leading characters. He is gentle, calm, and quiet. In a lot of ways he is the sweetheart I think we yearn for in are younger years, or the type of guy we want when we've had enough of egotistical, immature, and to put it politely, insensitive pricks.

The Collector

(Erotic Paranormal Romance)

Book: One

BLURB:

After watching millions die, those human emotions are starting to take effect. Instead of collecting his next spirit from the car accident that is about to kill her, Kale saves her life. His punishment for ruining fate... is mortality.

Samantha hasn't been able to stop thinking about her beautiful hero. So when she stumbles across him, lying in a hospital bed with a small case of amnesia, she is more than happy to offer him her help. It's the least she can do to re-pay the man who saved her life.

Though Samantha soon learns that Kale isn't the guardian angel she thought he was, not to mention how far he has fallen to earn a place in her heart.

Excerpt:

“If you stood in front of me now as an angel with your wings and…that would be fine. I mean, I would be freaking out big time, but I’ve seen angels, and I do believe in them. The fact that I know you guys exist sways my belief a tad, but hey, I didn’t ask to see. But you—” She stopped and looked at him. “Why are you here?”

“I already told you. I saved your—”
“I know, but after all the years you have been around. All the people you have watched die.” She handed him the plate and glass of juice. “Why me?”
He looked away from her. “I do not understand what you—”
“Why did you choose to save me?”
“I could not let you die.” He placed the plate and glass on the kitchen counter.
“But you have let goodness knows how many people die. Why me?”
“You made me...” He leaned against the counter and looked at her. “You made me…feel.”
She frowned up at him in confusion. “I made you feel?”
“Angels do not feel. Not in the way humans do. But with you, the thought of you dying it…it…did not feel right. It made me…hurt. So I saved you.”
Heat spread through her cheeks and down her neck. “And now you’re human?”
“Yes, now I am human. A human who remembers everything about his immortal life.”
“And you threw it all away just to save—” Her breath caught as he leaned forward and cupped her face with his hands, the coolness of his skin easing the fire under her flesh.
“It does not matter.”
Her breathing became heavy as his fingers brushed lightly over her skin. “Don’t you miss it?”
“Yes and no.” He smiled faintly as his gaze wandered over her face.
“But didn’t you like being an angel?”
I can’t believe I am having a normal conversation about this.
“Again, yes and no. The beauty we get to witness, the way the world has changed with time. The love. There is so much love in this world. It fascinated me along with the smallest things. Like how the rain would feel on my skin.” He leaned forward, his lips inches from hers. “How a kiss would taste. How your skin would feel…”
His breath was hot against her cheek. A rush of heat flooded through her legs as she looked into the pools of his midnight eyes.

BBPR & GB Blog Hop: The Beta Male

Name: Brendan Daniels
Age: 36
Species: Werewolf

Book Hero: Cranberry Blood (Book 1 in The Blood Series)

Brendan walks a very fine line between being a beta male and an alpha. He is fourth in charge of the Pack, which means he is one of the more stronger Werewolves and can step in to that dominant possession, but he is completely happy following orders, and basically doing anything that needs to be done.

He sees women as equals, and unless he comes across a female who genuinely needs help, he has no problem with letting them fight their own battles. Unlike Owen, and many other alpha males, who would basically step in.

Brendan is a good friend, and he is very good a listening. He is confident but not to the point where it radiates from him. He can be cheeky and a little cocky if the occasion calls for it, but he is comfortable with himself.

He is moody at times, and he has scars and past issues that he hasn't been able to fully let go of yet; for a number of reason.

When I first sat down to write Brendan he was completely different. Cranberry Blood, which is the book that he is the leading character in was the first novel that I actually wrote - although the version published is not the first version I did write - and both he, Heather and a number of the characters went through a lot of alterations. But like Owen, once I sat down and heard his past and got to know what made him the way he was, I grew very fond of him very quickly. And I have to say the first time you meet him, you aren't entirely sure of him straight away, but he has layers; he has his reasons for being the way he is, and he really is rather delicious once you get to the heart of him.

I honestly prefer men who you can have a laugh with. Be friends; lovers, partner. A man who isn't going to basically put you do; who respects you, and supports you, and is fine with you being the same with him. And yet there is still good chemistry in both the physical and mental sense.

Where oh where can I find such a man? ;-p

Cranberry Blood

(A dark sensual paranormal romance)

Book: One

BLURB:

Killing Vampires? Easy. Tracking someone? Simple. Helping, and protecting a Vampire slayer... Bloody hard work!

Thirteen years ago, Brendan Daniels made a deal with a psychic. In exchange for information on the whereabouts of a Rogue Werewolf, he promised to help and protect Sofia's granddaughter. Unfortunately, he had no idea what he was getting himself, or his Pack, into.

Nothing about Heather is simple, from her weird dietary needs to her life’s mission. The girl can handle herself, but the promise to protect her soon becomes a need, and one that he can't fully understand.

Vampire Slayer. Born Infected. Blood addict... but not by choice.

Heather Ryan is the most recent slayer in a long family line. Like all before her, she has spent her life searching for her ancestor, Marko Pavel, the Vampire her family has sworn to kill. If that isn't complicated enough, Heather is also a born "Infected", and to keep her from becoming insane or giving in to her darker side, she is on a very strict diet.

Grandmother Sofia has passed, so now it is up to Heather to take the family legacy into her own hands, all alone: or at least, it would have been, if her Grandmother hadn't sent a Werewolf to help her.

What is the irritating Brendan supposed to help Heather with? Sofia never told either one of them. But it doesn't take long for Heather and Brendan to find out that the Vampires have big plans, and that the fiends have waited a long time for them both.

Excerpt:

Brendan pulled back the covers. Cool air beat against my sensitive, bare legs. He offered me his hand. After I stared at it for a moment, he laughed.

"Just take my hand, Heather."
I pulled myself gently out of the bed, then placed my hand in his.
"You have been off your feet for a while, so I don't know how steady you'll be."
I nodded and pushed myself off the bed; slight licks of pain travelled up my calves and thighs, irritating the bruised muscles as I stood. At my whimper, Brendan's right arm wound around my waist.
"Are you okay?"
I hissed as a duller pain throbbed up my right side.
"Shit. Sorry." He loosened his grip.
"It's okay. I just—" I took a deep breath, then exhaled. "I'm a little sore, that's all."
"Do you want me to carry you?"
"No. No, thank you."
"Well, the bathroom is just through the door behind the dressing screen."
We slowly walked across the room.
Pins and needles shot through my legs with every step. Surprisingly, my teeth hadn't cracked from the pressure of them grinding, since I’d clamped my mouth tighter than a lid on a jar.
Brendan pushed open the mahogany door, then switched on the light. The whitewashed bathroom felt as impersonal as the bedroom. Fresh white towels hung neatly from a silver heating rack; a full bottle of lavender hand soap sat on the counter. My focus settled on the giant tub and the assorted soaps neatly arranged on a small shelf beside it. I walked to the white ceramic sink and placed my hands on the bowl while Brendan stood awkwardly beside me.
"Would it be okay if I used the bath?" I asked, gulping through the fading licks of pain.
"Sure." He plugged the drain, then turned on the taps.
I watched as he picked up a pink bottle and popped the cap. He tipped the liquid under the hot, running water. I smiled as the scent of strawberries floated up with the tendrils of steam and filled the dry, scentless air.
"I don't need you to help me with anything else." I laughed lightly as he eyed my clothes. I still wore the male's shirt from the night at the blood house, and underpants; my jeans and boots had vanished, but thankfully, the dark, filthy shirt stopped mid-thigh. I smelled the stink of dry Vampire blood, dirt, chemicals, and sweat. I felt so dirty and sore.
"I didn't fully undress you this time," he said with a smile.

BBPR & GB Blog Hop: The Alpha Male

Name: Owen MacLaren
Age: 39
Species: Werewolf

Book Hero: She-Wolf (The Blood Series Prequel)

I first met Owen through Brendan Daniels who is also a Werewolf. I wrote Brendan and Heather's story first - Cranberry Blood (Book 1 in The Blood Series) - and Owen was a secondary character who came in to play in the second half of Cranberry.

When I was developing the world of "The Blood Series" I spent a little time with each character so I could figure out who they were, their own personal history etc. and Owen was a lot of fun in terms of his background.

He's the Alpha's son - only son - and he is second in charge of the Pack. He is a total ladies man; charming, confident. He has a temper and can get quickly pissed off, and he is overprotective of people he cares about; especially his mate. He is all about action before questioning. Very active. Very sexy.

The only reason I ended up writing his and Clare's story - which I had planned to do eventually - was because the idiot barged into my head and basically demanded I write it. He was irritatingly determined, and eventually I caved and got to it.

Too me Owen is very Alpha, but not in an over the top kinda way. He is quite down to earth, but has no problem stepping into that role within a blink of an eye. He can be very cocky about things, very sure of himself, and has a tendency to basically do things without thinking to much about the consequences.

Owen was a lot of fun to write, and as annoying as he can be, I totally fell for the pain in the ass. I personally don't think I could deal with an "Alpha Male" but I have to admit there is something very appealing about having such a man.

She-Wolf

(Erotic Paranormal Romance)

Book: Prequel to Blood

BLURB:

Dealing with the Rogue werewolves terrorizing his Pack? Simple. Trying to convince his mate he does want to be with her? Bloody impossible.

Owen MacLaren is the Alpha's son and the Pack's second, and he has never been one to let anything get to him. So when a bunch of Rogues begin purposely dumping mutilated bodies around the Pack Keep, he is more than ready to deal with the Werewolves responsible. But one trip to a local strip joint for a colleague's stag night changes things, and Owen soon discovers he isn't immune to everything . . . .

After five years away, Clare Walker finds herself back home in Scotland, working in a strip club. The tips are decent, and she gets to dance, but it isn't a place she thought she would ever be, let alone Owen, her Pack second and the Werewolf who broke her heart.

Although Owen is determined to prove he wants to be with Clare, things can't go smoothly between them, not when they have past issues to sort out and a bunch of unusual 'Rogues' to deal with.

Excerpt:

He straightened, a ridiculously huge smile on his face. "It's really good to see you."
The tension in my muscles vanished and my body froze on the spot. "What?"
He laughed, as his right hand rubbed at the back of his neck. "I'm getting the impression the feeling isn't mutual."
It was good to see him, better than I could have dreamed.
"What the hell do you expect, Owen?" I forced myself to walk away, to create distance. "We haven't seen or spoken to each other in five years, and then you breeze in here and start drilling me with all your stupid questions. I don't have to answer to you. I never have."
"I know."
I turned to find him looking at me. "Then don't patronize me, I am not a child anymore."
"Believe me, flower,"—I watched specks of silver dance across his irises—"I'd noticed."
My stomach flipped as his energy brushed against me, causing goose bumps to rise on my arms. I tried not to shiver. "Then what the hell do you care about what I‘m doing?" I stepped back as he stalked slowly toward me. "We might be Pack but . . . butting into each other's business was never mentioned in the initiation."
"You're right. I'm sorry." He didn't look sorry. "But seeing you was a shock to the system. Especially seeing you here."
"Likewise," I mumbled.
"And watching them put their hands on you. Smelling how they wanted you . . . ." A growl emanated in the back of his throat, possessive and deep.
My Wolf stirred.
"It's all part of the job," I told him.
He took another step closer; all humor had drained from his face.
"What the hell‘s wrong with—" The breath caught in my throat as my back hit the wall.
The scent of mowed grass and tangy cologne wrapped around me, and flooded my senses. His metallic eyes studied me for a moment. His jaw was tense, his brow creased, as if he was suddenly lost in thought.
"I don't like . . .  the idea of—of other men . . .  touching you."
The confusion in his voice matched my own. "W-why is that?"
He pressed his hands flat against the wall, caging me with his body. "I don't want anyone touching you, except me."

Hero Love: Batman

Christian Bale as Batman in 'Batman Begins'.
Technically I should have made yesterdays post a heroine love post to Batgirl since I did mention her. (Turns back time and adds a Batgirl picture to yesterdays post.)

Hero Love: Watson Pritchett

Chris Kattan as Watson Pritchett in
'House on Haunted Hill'
(If you haven't seen the 1999 version of House on Haunted Hill, then this post contains a bit of a spoiler.)

Watson is my fave character in the film House on Haunted Hill, because he basically spends the entire film scared out of his mind, and a little drunk.

Heroine & Hero Love: Rogue & Gambit

Rogue & Gambit (X-Men comics)
Oy. I did it again. I didn't post yesterday. I'm blaming it on feeling slightly out of sorts.

So, straying a little away from tv/film, but then again not, because X-men use to be a cartoon series on tv and naturally they have been made into films starring the delicious Hugh Jackman as Wolverine *swoon*

Hero Love: Fletch

James Corden as Fletch in 'Lesbian Vampire Killers'.
(Yes. He does start the movie dressed as a clown.)

There was no way that I could mention the movie Lesbian Vampire Killers - Yesterdays Heroine Love post - and not mention Fletch.

Hero Love: Green Arrow

Justin Hartley as Green Arrow
in 'Smallville'

I wasn't feel great yesterday, went to bed early, and forgot about Heroine Love :(

It was only a matter of time before this tall hunk of green leather found it's way onto my Hero Love list.

I am an Oliver Queen/Green Arrow fan girl. Plus I think Justin Hartley is sooooo delicious.

But having said that I have only watched snips of smallville. (I'm not very good at keeping up with series, which is why I usually just buy the boxsets if the series interest me.) But from what I have seen... Ollie is awesome. Cheeky. Cool. Like the modern day Robin Hood he just rocks. And like Robin he kicks ass with that bow and arrow of his.

Did I mention he's delicious?

Hero Love: Robin Hood

Russell Crowe as Robin in 'Robin Hood.'
I've always liked the Robin Hood stories. I'm not sure why exactly, maybe I have a thing for men in tights... hmmm. The films. The animation. The TV series. I'm a Robin Hood fan. I was excited when the newest film came out, the trailer looked cool. And when I finally got to see the film... I was not dissapointed.

Hero Love: Tallahassee

Woody Harrelson as Tallahassee in 'Zombieland'.
I bought Zombieland as a christmas present for someone, but he already had it. So I kept it. Ha. I have wanted to see it since it came out so it made sense to keep it.

I like zombie films, but I LOVE zombie comedies, and Zombieland was a whole lot of funny. I laughed. I laughed a lot.

Hero Love: Prince Edward

Richard Chamberlin as Prince Edward in 'The Slipper and the Rose.'
It was my grandmother who introduced me to the film 'The Slipper and the Rose.'

It is a beautiful, amazing - musical - version of Cinderella. I love everything about this film. The costumes. The music. The songs. And the awesome way the film finishes.

Heroine & Hero Love: Alice & Achilles

Mila Jovovich as Alice in 'Resident Evil.'
Throwing the loving together because I am going away tomorrow, but do not fear I shall put She-Wolf up before I go.

Thursday, 30 December 2010

Hero Love: Dorian Gray

Ben Barnes as Dorian Gray in 'Dorian Gray.'
Old school good boy gone bad... who eventually wants to be good again.

As with the heroine love post yesterday, our hero becomes a little cruel as he enjoys life on the wild side. But I just think the story is brilliant. And the character Dorian is amazing. And yes it was also an excuse to put the oh so awesome Ben Barnes on here. I fell in love with him in this role, I think he is just fab.

Hero Love: Kick-ass

Aaron Johnson as Kick-ass in 'Kick-ass.'
I noticed that my heroine love post leaked over on to thursday. (Tut, tut to me.) I went and posted it and stupid past midnight, honetsly, what am I like?

Any way....

I suppose that fact that Kick-ass is just your average, geeky, comic book loving guy - should I say teen? - who decides he wants to be a 'super hero' is the appeal. He decides he wants to start helping people and he does. And see he has no super powers to heal him nice and quick... Like batman he wears the bruises and the scars he receives from the fights he gets into. And man do they look painful.

He isn't buff . He isn't a skilled fighter. He is just a crazy guy who woke up and decided he wanted to start kicking the asses of people who push people around. Basically he just wings everything he does. Madness, but he is such a cool character, and a hero in his own right.

Heroine & Hero Love: Trinity and Neo

Plans have changed a little and I'm headed to see the family early so Heroine and Hero Love is being thrown together today. And what a duo... Neo and Trinity.

Keanu Reeves & Carrie-Anne Moss as Neo & Trinity in
'The Matrix Trilogy'.

Thursday, 9 December 2010

Hero Love: Captain Sparrow

Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in
'The Pirates of the Caribbean'
Aye, me mateys, I'm a feeling me some pirates this week... but I couldn't have a pirate heroine without a pirate hero. And naturally it was going to be the ridiculous Captain Jack Sparrow.

Johnny Depp is my favourite actor of all time. My honest opinion is that he is the best character actor... in the world. He blows me away each and every time and I just think he is brilliant.

Thursday, 2 December 2010

Hero Love: Zorro

Antonio Banderas as Zorro in
'The Mask of Zorro'
It could be the fact that I have to hots for Antonio. It could be that as this character he is all broody and charming and delicious... I don't really know what it is. I just know I love the Zorro films.

I think the stories are great, witty and passionate. I think there is the right dose of action and romance running along side each other. I'm a big fan of spanish music, so I love the soundtrack to these films. And the cast is just awesome. On screen chemistry between Catharine Zeta and Antonio... (melts) Love it.

I think what makes Zorro the hero he is, is that he is a fighter for the people. (Kind of like batman) He isn't some X assasin or military man or anything of the sort. He's just a civilian, who met a guy in a bar and that guy taught him how to fight. And come on... Anthony Hopkins as the original Zorro... I mean wow. Anthony rules.

The first film is my favourite out of both of the two, although I have to say Zorro's son in film two - The Legend of Zorro - is just a super cool kid. He kicks butt.

Thursday, 25 November 2010

Hero Love: Constantine

Keanu Reeves as John Constantine in
'Constantine.'
I love this movie. I love the story. I love the tiny snips of humor. Angels. Demons. Half-breeds. Mythology. I just love.

I really like Keanu as an actor, I read somewhere once that he has been slated alot by critics.... 'Why people? Why?'

He's had many great and interesting roles... I just think he's brilliant.

Hero Love: Rick

Brendan Fraser as Rick O'Connell in
'The Mummy Trilogy'
Rick O'Connell. I fell in love with this character because despite the fact he can knock the heck out of someone and fight off mummies, he is kinda goofy. Which I think is really amusing and sweet. He's not your typical badass alpha man, and he is sooo cute with Evie.

The conversations between him and pretty much everyone are just funny because of the way he sees things and acts upon them. And I personally think the chemistry between Brendan and Rachael Weisz was perfect, which is why I was so dissapointed when I learnt Rachael wasn't in the third film. I know in the third film Rick and Evie are experiencing chemistry problems in their marriage but something was just off for me. I think it is all due to the fact that I just loved Rachael so much as Evie, because I am a fan of Maria Bello but something just didn't click. But The third mummy film is good. Johnathan is hilarious as always and Jet Li is awesome, so definitely worth the watch.
